This program is a great value for money option for the family with smaller children. The properties we use are very child friendly and offer great value for money. The roads in the Western Cape, Garden Route and Eastern Cape are very scenic and this is the ideal area to explore by driving yourself. This program allows you to experience 5 diverse areas that encompass some of the best tourism destinations South Africa has to offer. Your Family safari at Lalibela will be guided and they offer a children programme for younger children. The Eastern Cape offers great big five game viewing in a Malaria free enviroment.

Today you drive from Cape Town to Franschoek in the beautiful Winelands area.

Winelands
The Winelands region is an area of exquisite beauty with Rocky Mountains overlooking green vineyards; oak avenues leading to elegant Cape Dutch wine estates and some of the most charming towns and villages in South Africa. The main pleasure of this region is the enjoyment of the good life: appreciating the wine and the superb architecture, enjoying long, lazy meals in one of the many excellent restaurants, browsing in Shops and galleries or taking scenic drives or walks in the surrounding mountains.

Rusthof Country House - Mountain Facing Family Suite, Breakfast
Rusthof lies in the heart of the historic French Huguenot valley of Franschhoek. Each of the 6 spacious bedrooms has its own unique character, with pure cotton bed linen, coffee and tea facilities and the most luxurious interior décor. They are fully air-conditioned and have underfloor heating (even the bathrooms!). Enjoy the cold buffet of fruit juices, fresh muesli and marinated fruits, yoghurts, cheese, homemade bread, croissants and preserves; followed by a choice of hot dishes, all served in the delightfully decorated French Provençal 'kitchen' dining-room.

DAYS 6 – Drive from Winelands to the Little Karoo, Overnight Oudtshoorn

Today you set off for the Little Karoo region via the lovely Boland Mountains and through the deciduous fruit farm area of Elgin.

Little Karoo
The Little Karoo is an arid, rugged land reached via the spectacular mountain passes over the Outeniqua Mountains. You can sample the excellent wines of the area over lunch at a working ostrich farm or visit the Cango Caves, a labyrinthine complex of limestone caverns. The intrepid will be captivated by the wild beauty of the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert and the mysterious hidden valley of Die Hel, whilst children will adore seeing the big cats at the Cango wildlife ranch, learning about ostriches, (even riding one), and cringing at the crocodile and snake farm.

La Plume Guest Farm – Cottage, Breakfast
La Plume Guest Farm near Oudtshoorn is a working ostrich farm with peaceful views over the Olifants river valley to the Swarberg Mountains. The attractive Victorian homestead is decorated in period style and all 12 en suite rooms are well-appointed, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, complimentary port, television, bar fridge and furnished with Cape antiques. Farm tours and Karoo farm-style dinners are available on request.

DAY 7 –  Drive from the Little Karoo to the Garden Route, overnight Hog Hollow

After breakfast you drive to the Garden Route. On the way you can visit the Cango Caves. The Cango Caves are some of the largest limestone caverns in the world and are still only partially explored.

Garden Route
The Garden Route thoroughly deserves its reputation for enchanting beauty. The 'Garden' refers not to cultivated gardens, but to indigenous forests of tall yellowwoods and milkwoods covering the slopes of the Outeniqua and Tsitsikamma mountains. This region, between Mossel Bay and the Storms River, offers a spectacular coastline of dramatic headlands giving way to white sandy beaches. The Garden Route area is perfect both for those wanting to relax in a beautiful area and for those wishing to be more active.

Hog Hollow Country Lodge - Loft Suite (Double occupancy+2), Breakfast
Hog Hollow Country Lodge lies in its own private nature reserve with breath-taking views over the indigenous forest valleys to the Tsitsikamma Mountains, and yet only 18km from Plettenberg Bay. This is essentially a rural retreat for lovers of outstanding cuisine, warm hospitality and panoramic views.
